A big surprise rised up during construction of Marmaray Project just next our hotel. A mystery of Istanbul, capital of civilizations since thousand years may ever come out to surprise. Theodosios Port is a Rome - Byzantine sea port. It's inside from 1,5 kms from the shore and is a proof how much the city enlarges into the sea in the length of time. In the area, beside 2 Byzantine galleons, thousands of broken amphoras, 45 pieces good healt of them are found.
First, this area has been used as a sea port, later in time used as a field to grow fresh vegetables for Istanbul as calling Langa Bostanlari. Operation for this archeological heritage is handling by Undersea Archelogic Institute of Bodrum with the leadership of Prof. Cemal Pulak. At the first hand they took acuse to avoid perishing of woodden heritages upon contact with air.
They think these 2 galleons belong to 11th century. One of them almost has no damage. They also discovered many buildings around antique port. Construction of Marmaray project did not cause only this found. At Vezneciler district, very close to the area, a mosaic floor 100 sqm is founded.
Historical peninsula hides too many mystery..
